There are so many amazing charities I have had the opportunity to support over the years and I believe you should too! This especially ties into the 'Anything' portion of Do Something Positive, as the sky's the limit when it comes to causes to support. Supporting a charity is not just about raising money and making donations..it's also about spreading awareness/meaning for the charity, which is easily made possible through social media! Here's some of my favorite charities I've volunteered for/supported over the years:
Jacob's Touch
Jacob's Touch was founded several years ago by some of our close family friends. They currently reside in Florida, which is where they host their annual golf tournament. Jacob's Touch has the sole focus of raising money and awareness for Autism. They often participate as a group in Autism walks, and my family has joined in on these in the past. Jacob was actually one of my first friends growing up and he was later diagnosed with Autism. He is so incredibly kind and exemplifies that love is truly limitless.
Autism Speaks
Autism Speaks is a more wide-scale Autism awareness organization. They host Autism walks all over the country, and still plan to have them this year! They have done so well in educating the public about Autism and shedding light on the subject. I was lucky enough to call myself a National Ambassador for this wonderful organization in 2016.
Children's Miracle Network
Children's Miracle Network is widely supported thanks to the Miss America Organization, but that doesn't mean you should refrain from this great foundation. Children's Miracle Network hospitals are nationwide and provide love and care for so many children. Besides donating, there are so many ways to help out. Helping to further these kids educations by donating kids/young adult books is one creative way to help out, while paying visits to the hospitals is a free way to uplift spirits!
Caleb's Pitch
Caleb's Pitch is similar to the Make-a-Wish foundation, both of which, help make dreams a reality. Caleb's Pitch was founded after a pediatric cancer patient named Caleb whose biggest dream was to pitch for the Red Sox. Although he sadly passed away, he was able to achieve his biggest aspiration. My family has hosted a golf tournament for this organization and have participated in their group at the Ronald McDonald House. Another really cool thing about Caleb's Pitch is their syringe art. They work with colleges and its athletes to join childhood cancer patients in this project. They put paint in the syringe to turn them into an object representing positivity. Like the idea? Why not try to do it at your local college!
UNICEF
UNICEF is all about prioritizing children to help nurture and meet their needs. This organization actively seeks involving youth to help serve and provide support for the youth of the world, especially those in developing countries. I've had the opportunity to work as a club officer under them, and in return they focus on educating us and providing ways for all of us to make a difference. There are so many ways to get involved with UNICEF and I highly encourage doing so.
Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Noted as one of the top rated charities, they are doing amazing work to help stop breast cancer. You can trust them to be a worthy place to donate your money. To help spread the cause for free, you can promote them and spread awareness in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Think Pink!
Operation Smile
My grandpa worked a lot with organizations like this when he was a surgeon. Operation Smile helps to provide a new way of life for so many struggling children. Normally traveling to Africa, Operation Smile works on children with a cleft palate. They often take youth with them, so you could get hands on experience making a difference in the world!
These are just a few of SO many great charities out in the world. I encourage you to get involved and be an advocate for whichever charity speaks to you. Let me feature your favorite organizations, so please reach out!
